In 1949, George Berthiaume had a vision. Already an established developer and builder, his thought was to open a lumber yard to not only serve his needs for construction projects, but to offer the area a retail outlet to purchase building material for their own use as well. The first location was at the intersection of Barcelow and Owen Streets and featured a railroad siding.
In 1955, outgrowing that location the former Gillen Coal Yard was purchased on Jersey Avenue, renovated into a full-service outlet for building material additional staff was added for the expansion, including Berthiaume’s son-in-law James Rohner, Sr. Upon the untimely passing of Rohner in 1961, Berthiaume’s daughter Marion joined the firm to handle all the accounting and bookkeeping aspects of the growing firm.
In 1970, Berthiaume’s grandson James Rohner, Jr. joined the firm and established a connection with the True Value Hardware group. Many additional brand name quality vendors and manufacturers were added to their products offered. Shortly after, Jim’s sister Kathleen Galligan joined the firm, helping with the expanded duties of the office and bookkeeping.
Today the family-owned business is in its fourth generation of ownership, including Jim Rohner and his two nieces, Jean Miller and Marianne Ramos. Berthiaume's Neversink Lumber Co. Inc. proudly sells many well-established brand products, such as Andersen Windows, Benjamin Moore Paint, Owens-Corning Roofing, Wolf and Merillat Kitchen and Bath Cabinetry, Armstrong Ceilings, and True Value Hardware Tools and Hardware.

What a great place for a big truck driver.the yard guys were very helpful for backing in, as well as helping customers at the same time. if the inside people are like the ones outside it is probably a good place to do business.

We purchased composite decking materials to renovate our deck. The owner Jim was outstanding providing suggestions as to wood and composite sources, helping us make a selection, and after we ordered the materials providing delivery and return of some unused materials for reimbursement. Excellent, outstanding service. Prompt response every time!

Bought a washer and dryer here two years ago, came with a 6 month warranty. Had no problems until last week when dryer blew a fuse (my fault, I overloaded it and it overheated). They helped us find the part and now everything is working great again. Great customer service and VERY friendly people. I recommend them to everyone :-)
